Autumn Open House!

  • Second Unitarian Church 656 West Barry Avenue Chicago, IL, 60657 United States (map)

Last winter, Masjid al-Rabia opened our doors for the first time to host Jummah prayers for marginalized Muslims. Since then we have set out to provide inclusive, affirming Muslim spiritual care in unprecedented ways--creating digital programming for LGBTQ Muslim youth, starting a Prison Outreach program supporting hundreds of incarcerated LGBTQ Muslims, educating our communities on inclusive and affirming community building, and more.

This October, we will be hosting an Open House for our extended Chicago community to learn more about our programs, volunteer opportunties, and the future of LGBTQ Muslim advocacy. We will have snacks and our free library of critical feminist and minority-sect Muslim literature will be open all night. Our schedule for the evening is as follows:

6:30-7:30pm -- Doors open and we will have tea, coffee and finger foods in the lobby.
7:30 -- We will be facilitating a conversation about where we've come as a community and where we want to go, facilitated by Director of Spiritual Education Zaynab Shahar.
8:45p -- We will have community led gender-inclusive Isha prayers.

PLEASE RSVP! On facebook or via email at We look forward to seeing you and sharing in an evening of conversation and community.

We will be meeting at Second Unitarian Church in Lakeview, located very close to 77 Belmont, 22 Clark and 8 Halsted busses. Entrance is on the east side of the building. Parking can be difficult--if you are driving, give yourself a little extra time! The church is wheelchair-accessible. We will have food options to accomodate a wide range of food

There will be childcare available if needed! Contact with any questions.
